first... we plant the seed

TVK Netlabel just released "first... you plant the seed.", a freely available to stream or download compilation. Their pitch:
We are very pleased to present our very first compilation featuring new and exclusive tracks from a handpicked selection of artists who have previously released work on the TVK Netlabel. Fine examples of fresh produce ranging from ambient, noise, neoclassical, beats and experimental electronics from all corners of the globe including Australia, Moldova, Ireland, Portugal, Russia, Mexico, Austria and Canada have been contributed to our sonic garden with the intention of planting a seed in your listening mind - which then, with your attention and interest thus cultivated, will germinate and grow into a bountiful harvest to be shared amongst everyone, providing aural sustenance to all who feast on our delicious wares. In accordance with our efforts to build this small plot into a larger community supported ecosystem these seeds are given away free of charge in this sampler pack and we encourage you to spread them far and wide across the land - with your help.
This compilation has an exclusive Merankorii track called "Lamento".

KEEP IT FROZEN 5 Years Remix Anniversary

KEEP IT FROZEN 5 Years Remix Anniversary By Merankorii

Keep It Frozen is a nice independent noise label, that now makes 5 years of existence. To celebrate it, Merankorii did a mixtape, freely available for download, a mix of sounds released on KIF during this five years, as seen through an industrial light.

Free streaming and download, I hope you enjoy it!

(If you feel compelled to help us financially, buy something from KIF or Merankorii's latest album)

New album: Rather Than Bored

After a lot of teasing and letting some information slip, it is now, finally, the moment to announce it: Merankorii has been hardly working for two years to produce what now is "Rather Than Bored", a conceptually closed album that marks a (big) change on what Merankorii is.

I'm really happy with the result, and with the fact that, for the first time, Merankorii will be released on vinyl. The album comes both as a Vinyl LP and a CD, so if you're not really a fan of vinyl (or don't have a record player) you can still enjoy this album.

The details:
Format: LP (Vinyl + CD)
Label: Noori Records, NR021
Edition: Limited to 11 copies
Price: 25€

The first eight orders will also receive extra items hand painted by Merankorii with paintings allusive to the album’s theme, each of them unique.

If you missed it, here’s a small teaser made for this release:

Necktar 2017 volume 3

A mere journey through time,
the great work of anachronistic alchemists,
the apiary of a network of precognitifs,
the magnetic murmur of a quantum flaw,
a vortex of antimatter annihilating all listeners' dogmas,
a dream above the Earth passing through the Unconscious,
a psychotropic meditation resetting the consciousness...

The spectrum of possibilities has been further expanded.
Necktar 2017 volume 3
Necktar 2017 is an yearly compilation, an ongoing project until the year 2017, each release with a new set of themes. The set of themes of volume 3 is Macro / Perception / Micro : Evolution. As in volume 2, Merankorii participates in this volume 3 with a track (Barbershop), and this year my side-project kokori is also participating, with the track "Terror Attack". The digital edition of this release is free to stream and download, and is composed by 111 tracks of different yet consistent horse norme bands.

Merankorii @ Magna Casta

It isn't the first time Merankorii has a "commissioned work" of some sort, but it was the first time that Merankorii was *really* commissioned to do some work :-) Some months ago, the great folks from Magna Casta a great Portuguese website about wine, talked with me to commission a song made by Merankorii to be used by them on some future videos. We talked about it and agreed to talk more on the issue, but in the meantime a 20th came, and what better inspiration for it than doing a track called "Magna"? Long story short (as 20th's have to be - short), the track was made and accepted, and Magna Casta already used the track for the first time.

The video follows, don't be afraid to spread the word :-)

Meranata

TVK netlabel invited Merankorii and Nata "to rework tracks from each others back catalog in any way they saw fit resulting in the split release (in more ways than one) that is MERANATA. This is what happened in the aftermath of that experiment. Two very different approaches, but with much common ground.":

Merankorii / Proyecto De Prueba - Cazatura De Arbori

It is with great pleasure that I now announce today's release of a new Merankorii album, called "Cazatura De Arbori" - a split CD between Merankorii and Proyecto De Prueba.

"Cazatura De Arbori" marks the end of a cycle - like the fall of a tree - for Merankorii, and with it the begining of another one. It is also the first physical release of Proyecto De Prueba, after two well recieved digital releases. The album is available in three different editions (prices include shipping):

  • Standard Edition (CD) - 9 Euro
  • Lighthouse Edition (2 CD) - 15 Euro
  • Collector's Edition (6 CD) - 35 Euro

"Lighthouse Edition" has two CDs in an handmade blue purse.
"Collector's Edition" has six CDs: the Lighthouse edition and four other randomly selected CDs from other artists.

New release: Cryptoloop

Bash and python got together in a loop, messed up with some devices and crypt functions. The result was compressed and spat into a floppy. The riddle is that the source code, while not available, is shown by the 9 minutes long music track itself. You just have to learn how to reverse engineer it… Or, at least, enjoy the resulting tune. The geekiest release ever from Merankorii is out now: grab this Cryptoloop! Packed inside handmade cardboard covers. Limited to 10 copies.

Released  at the 1st of February 2010, in three editions:

Floppy Disk - 6 Euro
Floppy Disk + Colored CD (with extra track) - 10 Euro
Package (10 different items includding the floppy and the CD) - 40 Euro
(All prices include shipping)

About the floppy edition: This is a *real* floppy disk. You'll need a 3 1/2 floppy disk drive or you won't be able to listen to this single. Yup, this sets the record as Merankorii's geekiest release ever ;-)

About the CD edition:
Besides the floppy, a CDr, with four different colors available. Purchasers of more than one of this packages get different colors. The CD includes the Cryptoloop track and a bonus track.

About the Package edition:
Each Package is different, and comes with 10 different items (expect most of them to be CDs), two of them being the Cryptoloop Floppy Disk and the Cryptoloop CD. Don't be afraid: no package will come with more than one Cryptoloop CD, unless you ask during the order. The market value of the items in the package is guaranteed to be more than the price of the package.

Orders can be done via e-mail, for now.

"New Aeon Symbols V - The Pentagram" Reviews

Damned By Light did a review on New Aeon Symbols V - The Pentagram, a 2CD compilation Merankorii made part of. Here's what they said about Merankorii's track:
Merankorii's 11-minuter sounds like you accidentally dialed to hell and the connection is in bad condition. You know what those dial-up-sounds are like, right? It's like a broken synth. Notes similar to that are played in a steady pace but without any melody, while being backed by some thin gritty distortion is what you'll hear for seven minutes. After that, more distortion, echoing and noisiness kicks in to give the track more structure, but the overall distortion soon fades and the track comes to it's end just barely more noisy than it was in the beginning. It's a really interesting track despite it's few elements, and a daring one too. I don't know how soon the track will lose it's appeal due to it's mostly thin soundscape, but it's a good listen nonetheless.
Their conclusion and rating for the album:
I'd recommend this release for people who want a quick look at the darker and/or noisier arts, and for people with need for ritual music. 9/10
You can buy this album directly to the label.

20th's: July 2009, August 2009 and September 2009 (new compilations)

Three more compilations with Merankorii tracks! Keeping up with Cabinet Pin's monthly compilations, July 2009 brings you "Denaturalization", a documentary of Humans actions towards Nature, August 2009 comes with "Oceanario", a song about the wonders that can be seen at Lisbon's Oceanário, and September 2009 with "Magna", a wine-inspired heavily-rhythmic track.

Leroi

Witte Dood is a sub-label of Svartgalgh Records, focusing on dark music of nearly any kind. Founded in 2009, its releases are much more DIY than those of the latter. Home-printed artwork in a thin plastic sleeve, 3”CDR discs only. Nothing fancy, just great music. And because of the simple, yet nice packaging, they are able to keep the prices low: only € 2,00 each (excl. p&p).

From their first day I knew I had to release something on this label - their concept is... defying. Let me explain: every release of them is a single, one track with 333, 666, 999 or 1332 seconds long (exactly - so 5:33, 11:06, 16:39 or 22:12).

And so... this happened:

WIT030 Merankorii - Leroi (1332 secs)
"Horror soundtrack from Portugal. Like the infamous and god-like Goblin."

20th May 2009, 20th June 2009 (new compilations)

Merankorii is keeping up with Cabinet Pin's monthly compilations, with two new tracks in two new compilations: "Piracy II" at "20th May 2009"'s compilation, and "Solar Cycle (Revolution One)" at "20th June 2009"'s compilation.

20may200920june2009

"Solar Cycle (Revolution One)" is the beginning in the exploration of a new ritualistic concept and field, one that I hope you'll be able to experience in an upcoming release.
